All Geography has been holding an annual Geography Bee for 12 years now, and will be holding a 13th this year. The idea came about when we were looking for something special to do for the celebration of the new millennium in 2000. It was agreed upon that we would hold a tournament for the older participants to test their knowledge. During then, it was also decided that the winner would receive a stipend to help go towards a college fund for that child.
The contest proved to be a huge success, as many of our participants turned up to take part of it. We decided to do it annually after that, and changed the rules to make it more fair to the wide age groups. So now we have split the contest into 4 categories: 1st-3rd grade, 4th-5th grade, Middle School, and High School. Currently there are 45 winners (11 for each of the categories and 1 for the first ever contest), and soon we hope to add 4 more names to that prestigious group of winners. |
